Bernie Taupin’s dark tale is typically enlightened by Elton’s music. It is however one of the better tracks on Reg Strikes Back.ĭespite the subject matter of spousal abuse I enjoyed Poor Cow. Like most movie sequels this song is never going to equal the beauty of the original and remains unoriginal. Sounding akin to the original on speed Part 2, when taken on its own merits, is a feel-good, funky number. None more obvious than Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters (Part 2) a revisit, of sorts, to that marvellous melodic ballad from 1972. Both the fan and the Elton ensemble went about demanding and creating facsimiles of those golden times the seventies. Reaching a creative nadir with the last studio album meant the only way was up for the follow-up.Įlton Hercules John was formally known as Reginald Kenneth Dwight, so here lies the quandary. I will never be able to make up for all this undivided attention but, once better, I will try my darnedest. Wives are obviously included with mine requiring a special mention: “Hi Floss". I have so many people to thank of late a gift, a car ride, some handy work, helping our kids, being there - it is all so very appreciated. I have started a course of co-trimoxazole to add to my home chemist drug intake.
No tears on my pillow, but my wife Fiona is finding dribble (thanks to the drugs) and hair. A chest X-ray and some swabs stuck so far up my nose that tears flowed. Only a couple of things have been going down at my favourite hospital this week. I have myeloma and want to raise awareness, so please feel free to share. All this seems like a suitably unrelated distraction. My decision is to review all 30 original, solo Elton John studio albums in chronological order adjacent to my initial 30-week cancer journey.
